- Meditate. Anxiety is often caused by fear of the future, of the unknown. Meditation can be useful to help with anxiety because it makes us focus on the present moment.
- Pray. If you are already religious, or want to build a better relationship with God, this is a great time to do it. Psalm 32:6-7 (NIV)
- Diffuse essential oils. Lavender oil is great if you are feeling anxious due to its calming effects. Thieves oil is also an oil you should think about adding to your arsenal during this time because it is known to boost the immune system, fight nasal and sinus congestion, promote respiratory and cardiovascular health, and fight microbes that are airborne.
- Eat foods rich in antioxidants. Many foods are known to reduce anxiety, such as blueberries, turkey, chamomile tea, salmon, almonds, and dark chocolate, to name a few. Eat healthy and smart!
- Get fresh air. While you are supposed to be staying in your home, you should still try to get outside for a bit while social distancing. Try to get at least 30-60 minutes of time outdoors per day.
- Reach out to friends and family. Keeping in touch (and discussing things other than the current crisis) is key to some sense of normalcy during this hectic time.
- Let yourself ruminate over your negative feelings for 10 minutes, but no longer! We need to take the time to acknowledge our anxious and negative thoughts and fears, but we can’t let our mind stay there for too long; otherwise, it will do more damage than good.
- Stay active. Whether that means your normal workout routine, playing outside with your dog, or going for a walk. Try to get some sort of physical activity in.
- Sleep. In order for your immune system to be at its peak, you should shoot to sleep for 7-8 hours per night. Take this time to get your sleep schedule back on track.
