The Art of Affirmations

Many of us have thoughts throughout the day that are less than kind to ourselves. It could range from our appearance (“I don’t look so great today”), our personality (“I wish I could stick up for myself better”), our job proficiency (“I can’t do this presentation, I’m a terrible public speaker”), and so on and so forth. Negative thoughts tend to breed more negative thoughts. And in turn, they can become a self-fulfilling prophecy; you think you’re not good enough, you start to believe you’re not good enough, and then these thoughts negatively impact various aspects of your life (personal, work, romantic relationships, friendships, etc.)

Yet if we simply started to change the way we talked to ourselves, we could have a much more positive impact in our day to day lives. Not to mention, we would feel immensely better about ourselves

Affirmations refer to the art of positive thinking and self empowerment. This belief is rooted in the premise that a positive attitude supported by positive thoughts will help you achieve success in life. Some people believe that affirmations are unrealistic and chalk them up to wishful thinking. But would you say those things that you say to yourself to someone else? Probably not, because it would hurt that person’s feelings. So why don’t we ever take our own advice and be kind to ourselves? Our own feeling’s matter as well.

Coming up with an affirmation that best fits you and your life is very personal. Sometimes, it can even be difficult to come up with your own affirmation because you’re not used to thinking such positive thoughts to yourself. But below I have comprised a short list of good starter affirmations for those trying to transform their thought process and mindset

  • I am energized and ready to take on a new day.
  • I accept myself just as I am.
  • I am focused, persistent, and will never quit.
  • I am a beautiful soul that radiates positive energy.
  • I do not fear the fire, I am the fire.
  • I’m successful in everything that I do.
  • I thrive in any and all situations.
  • I will keep an open mind and not judge.
  • I believe things will always work out for the best.
  • I am enough.

Instead of being our own toughest critics, let’s become our own greatest champions for success.
